The IDENTT Scientific Council

The Scientific Council is an advisory body established by the IDENTT Board in May 2025. It consists of active researchers from various fields. Some of the current Council members have previously collaborated with IDENTT on different projects. The role of the Council is to advise the Board on matters including ongoing scientific research, development directions, R&D project implementation, and staff development. Council members also review research project proposals and assess their implementation. The Council serves as a bridge between IDENTT and the scientific community.

Dr Thirimachos Bourlai

Renowned expert in biometric identification and an accomplished academic leader. He is a Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Georgia (UGA). He is the founder and director of the Multi-Spectral Imagery Lab and serves on the Board of Directors of the Document Security Alliance. He is also a member of the Academic Research and Innovation Expert Group of the Biometrics Institute and previously served as the Vice President of Education for the IEEE Biometrics Council. He has published five books, including Face Recognition Across the Imaging Spectrum (2016, 2024), Surveillance in Action (2018), Securing Social Identity in Mobile Platforms (2020), and Disease Control through Social Network Surveillance (2022). His contributions also include three patents and over 160 publications, spanning journals, conferences, book chapters, and magazines.

Prof. Marek Klonowski

Professor at the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, where he leads a research group focused on the intersection of AI and information security. He received the title of professor in 2020 and holds doctorates in mathematics and computer science. Author of over 150 international publications. Principal investigator of numerous scientific and R&D projects. Supervisor of many PhD dissertations. His research covers information security, distributed systems, and cryptography. Currently working on AI system security. Science communicator. Chair of the Council for the 2025–2027 term.

Dr Konrad Ptasiński

Konrad Ptasiński is a European Patent Attorney (EQE) with many years of experience. He obtained his PhD from Wrocław University of Science and Technology in 2014. He specializes in patent protection of inventions in the fields of mechanics, optoelectronics, and electronics, gained while working at the largest patent law firms in Poland. His portfolio includes over 200 invention projects handled before the Polish Patent Office, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the European Patent Office (EPO). He also provides consulting services on building effective intellectual property protection strategies and managing companies’ IP portfolios. Additionally, he conducts patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses to identify and minimize risks associated with the commercialization of R&D results.

Dr Martyna Mielniczuk-Skibicka

Attorney-at-law, specialist in intellectual property law, e-commerce law, and new technology law. Earned a Ph.D. in legal sciences from the University of Wrocław in 2023. Author of numerous publications, including the monograph „Kształt znacznie zwiększający wartość towaru jako bezwzględna przeszkoda rejestracji znaku towarowego” (“The Shape Significantly Increasing the Value of the Good as an Absolute Obstacle to Trademark Registration”)  by C.H. Beck, 2025. Speaker at numerous Polish  and international conferences.

Prof. Barbara Mróz-Gorgoń

An expert in marketing, brand building, and public relations. She earned her habilitated doctorate degree in 2020. Currently employed as a professor at the Wrocław University of Economics. Chair of the Advisory Board at Kotler Impact Poland and Vice-Chair of the Board of the Western Chamber of Commerce. Advisor to numerous Polish and international companies and corporations in the fields of marketing, development strategy, and PR. Author of numerous academic publications, including the book ,,Rebranding. Strategiczna zmiana dla organizacji” (Rebranding: Strategic Change for Organizations) (PWN), which was awarded the “Economicus 2020” prize by Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

Prof. Michał Polasik

Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, and Director of the Digital Economy and Finance Center at NCU. He obtained his habilitated doctorate degree in economics in 2016. Principal investigator of the pan-European research project “PayTechImpact.EU.” Author of over 70 scientific publications on retail payments and digital finance. Conducts research in the field of FinTech and broadly understood digital services.

Dr Piotr Kawa

Expert in advanced artificial intelligence methods and information security. Received a Ph.D. in Computer Science with distinction from Wrocław University of Science and Technology in 2025. Author of several research papers presented at leading international conferences on DeepFake detection and audio analysis. Co-creator of Reasembe AI. Actively involved in numerous research and development projects in the fields of biometric analysis and DRM technologies.

Dr Wojciech Wodo

Specialist in biometric identification. Assistant professor at the Department of Fundamentals of Computer Science at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. He obtained his PhD in computer science in 2019 at the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Author of nearly 30 scientific publications on information security, particularly in biometric technologies. Actively involved in numerous research and development projects, including as research lead in the PayEye project. Science communicator in the field of cybersecurity.

Dr Piotr Syga

Head of the applied research group at IDENTT and Assistant Professor at the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2015 at the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences. A specialist in biometrics, information security, and threats related to artificial intelligence technologies. Author of over 30 scientific publications in prestigious journals and international conferences. His main research areas include DeepFake technologies and voice recognition.

Dr Filip Zagórski

An expert in the security analysis of cryptographic protocols, with a particular focus on electronic voting systems and the application of stochastic methods. He earned his Ph.D. with distinction from the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences in 2010. He has held academic positions at various institutions in Poland and abroad, including George Washington University. Currently, he is affiliated with the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Wrocław. Author of over 30 publications presented at prestigious conferences, including the USENIX Security Symposium. Co-author of several deployed electronic voting systems and an international patent in the field of active identity verification.
